Pink Slip: Prom Check List

Prom is just around the corner! Hopefully you are super excited about your big night!
Pink Slip knows that there are a ton of things to think about in the last few days leading up to the Prom. We want to ensure that your night is as fabulous as possible, so we have compiled some tips to help.

Check List:

Your Dress
Hopefully you have your dress by now! If not, contact Pink Slip (info@pinkslipboutique.com) for you last minute dress needs. We will call it a fashion emergency and be at your house in 2.2 seconds!

Do you have your dress, but it looking a little flat from the garment bag? Let us steam it out! Email us and we'll re-steam your dress so it's perfect for the Prom. DO NOT, we stress at the top of our lungs, do not Iron your prom dress.... otherwise you'll be visiting Problem City: Population You!

Your Dates Tux
Now, it is definitely not your responsibility to take care of your dates tux, but we all know how silly boys can be, so you might want to check in and make sure everything is set. We bet if you call his mother she would have a better idea of whats going on.

Flowers
Did you and your date talk about flowers? Decide what kind and color and put your orders in ASAP. Flower shops are so busy on these days and you want to make sure you get exactly what you want!

Accessories
You really do not want to over accessorize your dress but adding a piece here and there will help to give your dress 'a look'. Let's face it, everyone can put on a pretty ball gown, or a sleek dress, but do your accessories help you stand out? If you need help creating your entire look for the prom, let us know. We have massive experience in fashion styling we want to make sure your look is unique for the dance. We also have ton of cute jewels, let us know if you need anything!

Shoes

Now, we're huge fans of the heel, but we're no Carrie Bradshaw. We know that after a few hours, our feet are on the verge of hating us for eternity. Make sure you bring along a nice pair of comfortable flats or flip flops to change into. You want to make sure you remember the night forever, not the aching blisters on your freshly manicured toes.

Also, wear your heels around the house prior to your prom. Now you will have that whole 'new shoe break-in' period taken care of.

Hair and Nails

Have a good idea of what you'd like done for your prom look. We suggest you try calling Planet Color (and ask for Kristen!) - This salon is young, fun, and they will go the extra mile to make sure you have the perfect hair. Contact the salon for your hair appointment at
(708) 479-8966.

Don't forget to wear a button up shirt when you make it to your appointment - you don't want to have to go ruining the 'do before anyone gets to see it- you also don't want to end up with a small birds nest on your head.

Your Purse

Since we know you're not carrying your everyday purse that basically fits the entire contents of your closet with you to the dance, be smart about what items you're stuffing in your clutch. Money, ID, a few touch up pieces of your make-up, camera, and your student I.D. if necessary, should be perfect.

Reservations
Do you have all of your reservations ready and confirmed? Limo, Dinner, etc.? Also, do you have your after prom plans prepared? Make sure you give these places a call just to confirm. You want everything to run as smooth as possible. Also, clear these plans with the parentals. You don't want any surprise "I DON'T THINK SO'S" on the night of prom when you tell your parents you'll see them on Monday.

Rest

It's really important to get enough rest before the big day because, trust us, it's a long, but incredibly fun and exciting day! Don't do anything silly like run a marathon, or go bowling. These activities might cause you major fatigue. Chill out and watch a movie instead. On Demand has never sounded so great. Drink plenty of water the week before the special day - your skin will look amazing! Also, eat sensibly. Go for light and filling meals - salads, proteins, these will be great for your energy on the day of the dance.

Now, you're all set! These tips will help make sure that you have the best and most memorable prom ever! If you've checked everything off on the list then you can feel confident that there will be no bumps in the road. We tell you these tips because we care, and we definitely don't want you having one of those prom moments that ends up on the 'I'm So Embarrassed!' pages of Vogue!

Let Pink Slip know if you need any last minute help, alterations, or styling advice!

Style Icon: Audrey Hepburn

If you love fashion, and have a pulse, we are pretty certain you have swooned over Audrey Hepburn's style. She can easily be called the most fashionable woman of all time, and even today has an impact on peoples fashion decisions.

Coco Chanel may have created the “Little Black Dress”, but Audrey Hepburn turned it into an icon. She made pearls, giant black sunglasses, ballet flats, and and over the top hats look amazingly classy and chic with her simplistic elegance.

Swoon: Robert Pattinson

This week we are swooning over Robert Pattinson. To be honest, we are not sure if we love Robert Pattinson the actor, or Edward Cullen the fictional character (is that weird?).
I mean sure, he needs a hair cut, and he almost constantly looks like he is in pain, but nevertheless Robert Pattinson makes our hearts flutter.

What is that point in living if I know I am never going to make out with Edward Cullen?

Products We Love: Dove Skin Vitalizer

Sometimes I wake up in the morning, check out my skin in the mirror, and think to myself "Why, God, Why?" My skin is ALWAYS dry. It really frosts my cookies that I have attempted treatment after treatment in order to ail this curse. Nothing had been good enough and I was searching for paper bags to cover my head with when I found this:

If ever there was a time to sing "Wind Beneath My Wings" it would be now. The Dove Skin Vitalizer is heaven in an $11.99 package. The small machine comes complete with exfoliating pads that are disposable. There are two sides to the pads - one for sensitive skin and one for hardcore exfoliating. Your skin has never loved you so much!

The foaming pads come in two different styles. These pads attach in a velcro way that keeps them in tact. All you do is run it under water for a second and get a lather and you're set to go! This is such a great beauty gadget, we highly recommend it!

Michelle Obama: More than just the first lady...Style Icon?

Michelle Obama maybe the first lady of the white house but she definitely has shown us a great peak into her window of chic style and grace no matter her location.

What we all love most about Mrs. Obama, is that she has impeccable taste and has good dibs on fab clothes from the likes of Chicago designer Maria Pinto, Narciso Rodriquez and J.Crew.

But the good thing about Michelle's fashion is that she makes it easy and known that anyone at home can look the part and still be sexy, refreshing and unique . The average women looks up to Mrs. O because of her ability to buy pieces that can be worn more than once and that's what it comes down to, affordability.

With just a hint of color that can be switched up with the usage of short or cropped embroidered cardigans, belts, necklaces, scarves, purses and kitten heels, in no time, you too can have timeless pieces in your closet ready to wear at anytime and all for at a great price!

To get elegant looks for less, Target, The Limited and Banana Republic are great deal busters to channel your inner Michelle Obama.

Pink Slip: Fashion Police Calling

You want to look your best the day of your Prom. But sometimes bad dresses happen to good people. You don't want a call from the fashion police. Stick with these tips, and you should be ok...

Tip #1 - Flags are not dresses. There is no reason to process your love for your country by weaning a prom dress in its honor.

Tip #2 - Do not buy a dress that makes you look like you just made out with some sort of giant man with abnormally large lips.

Tip #3 - Too much of a good thing CAN be wrong. Take the below dress - pink, floral print, ruffles, none of these are bad things. But together they join forces to make it look like Strawberry Shortcake threw up all over you.

If you bought one of these dresses, maybe you were having a bad day, maybe you suffered from a head trauma that caused you to believe you were making a good decision. Whatever the case, if you bought one of these dresses, call us immediately!

Your Dress
Hopefully you have your dress by now. If not, contact Pink Slip (info@pinkslipboutique.com) for you last minute attendees. Is your dress still in the plastic? You should take your dress out to let it breathe about 4 days before the prom. Make sure to keep it somewhere safe. Is it looking a little flat from the garment bag? Let us steam it out! Fab Collection: Monique Lhuillier Fall 2009

Wedding season is in full effect and the collections have never been lovelier. Monique Lhuillier has been one of my favorite designers for the past 3 or 4 seasons. I always love the bead work that goes in to her dresses.

Saving this one for my imaginary wedding! This is THE DRESS!

Swoon: James Marsden

We swooned over John Stamos last week, but this week's pretend boyfriend is James Marsden. We think he flies under the radar quite often, but this homeboy has been in tons of movies, television series, and fabulous ads! This guy's looks just scream "I SHOULD BE A REAL LIFE DISNEY PRINCE!!"

Bonus Points: He doesn't have a terrible voice and LOOK AT HIS TEETH! HOW AMAZING!!!

Pink Slip Grooves:

One of the things we love most about having our own special atmosphere is that we can share the music that we love in our store. We understand that our taste might not be the best, but we always like to listen to jams that are fun and upbeat... sometimes even songs that are outright ridiculous.
Pink Slip Grooves will feature a song that we currently enjoy listening to.

Carly's current groove is "The Chills" by Peter, Bjorn, and John:

This is a great song - super catchy and has a fun drum beat. Carly spends a lot of time dancing in her apartment to this song.

Lauren's current groove is "Move" by CSS:

We know that you want that girl's hair-do. We just know it.

Enjoy!!

Pink Slip Insight:

Models do not have it as easy as you think...

Shoot!
They are probably just very hungry and their low blood sugar causes slight dizziness.

*No models were hurt during the production of this video*

Fab Collection: Oscar de la Renta Fall 2009

Oscar de la Renta's dresses are so elegant. If I won the lottery, first order of business would be to buy his fall line.

If I had these dresses, I would find any excuse to wear them...the grocery store, the bank, the car wash. I would do my normal things, just look better doing it.

Pink Slip Style Icon: Erin Fetherston

If we could come back in life as someone else, we would pick Erin Fetherston. Erin, a designer with a Fine Arts degree from UC Berkeley, and a fashion degree from Parsons Paris, has been showing at the New York fashion week for the past three seasons and each collection is bigger and better than the last. If we were to sum up her collection we could do it in three words: fairy tale princess.... but we could also go on and add 'whimsical, enchanting, radiant...' and so on.

Erin is an inspiration to us at Pink Slip - she had a vision, with a goal, and she really went for it! We love that ambition! Check out some looks from Erin's collection:

We LOVE it!

At Pink Slip, we take our work very seriously. We love to have fun and joke around... even playing the occasional joke on each other, but we know when it's time to get down to business- apparently so does this guy. Warning: hilarity is about to ensue::

Pink Slip Mascot. You Pick!

So for a while I (Lauren) have been considering buying a dog because I think Pink Slip needs a mascot! I love the idea of having a little buddy running around the shop! I also love the idea of the newly invented 'pee pad' so it doesn't have to go outside!

Here are some of the dogs we're considering!
Let us know which one you like best!!

Teacup Maltese - This little guy is perfect! Just a baby, and a tiny one at that, he is available at Pocket Puppies on the north side of Chicago. Yes?

Another little monster available at Pocket Puppies. I can't get over how cute these are. Maybe it would get lost in the store?? What do you think of this one?

Or, I could always go with old faithful and get a shitzu. My family has had one for 12 years and we just love her! Maybe she'd like a friend!

Name Suggestions?

Warning...Do Not Shop While Hungry

Sometimes I go through my closet and wish I just had something that made me look like a fast food item. Is that weird? Apparently not. Below are some crochet dresses made to look like dinner.

This dress sort of brings a whole new meaning to looking like a piece of meat....

I like milkshakes just as much as the next guy (probably more) but I am not sure I'm willing to dress like one....

You certainty have to give them props from creativity!
