Pink Slip Style Icon: Betsey Johnson

There have been many designers that have inspired the look, feel, and product of our store and at Pink Slip, we love to give credit where credit is due.

Betsey Johnson is the true queen of the 'party dress.' For 30 years she has been creating designs that are fun, frilly, loud, colorful and sweet. Her runway shows are always innovative and fun. Her look is never stodgy... she never takes herself too seriously as a designer, and she always remembers that it's about having fun and being confident in what you wear. Betsey is a true style icon.

Glass Slipper Project

The Glass Slipper Project is a volunteer organization geared towards giving girls within the Chicago public school system the opportunity to have the prom of their dreams.

Last year was our first year volunteering for the event, and we were completely blown away. The generosity and graciousness of everyone involved was totally overwhelming.

This is a really awesome organization, and gives you the opportunity to help out people in your community. You can volunteer as a personal shopper - helping students who come through the boutiques. As a personal shopper, you will be assigned a student to help her find her dress, shoes, jewelry, make-up and accessories. If this is not your cup of tea, other opportunities are available to volunteer for the event.

If you have not already signed up to volunteer, what are you waiting for??

On Your Mark, Get Set, And Go Now

Sometimes Carly and I feel like this:

Japan Fashion Week

At Pink Slip, we love to keep an eye out for what is new, fresh, and exciting! Sunday ended Japan Fashion Week and we spotted a trend that made us laugh:

Now while most of this collection by designer Sachio Kawasaki is really amazing, we were dumbfounded by the 'no arms' look on the first model. We are huge fans of avant-garde looks but no arms? Wow.

So anyway, here are some looks that scream "You Know You're In Japan When...."

You Know You're In Japan When....You're outfit requires a light socket

You Know You're In Japan When....Your hair looks like this if you never found said light socket

You Know You're In Japan When....Your cape made of money holds a pocket for your TI-83

You Know You're In Japan When....Your clothes walk a thin line between ready-to-wear and a Sesame Street Character

So those are a few tips to keep in mind if you can't remember if you're in the Harajuku district of Japan or if you're just having a nightmare!!
