Pink Slip Grooves: Janelle Monáe Tight Rope
It has been a minute since we have updated you on our latest jams - but when we saw Janelle Monáe's Tight Rope video we knew we had to share it!

This video just makes us want to buy a pair of saddle shoes and dance!

Lemme Update Ya, I'mma Updateee Ya!

Now that our fashion show is over, and we're (sort of) less crazy, we will be updating you a little more often on what is happening in our busy lives!

Our first order of business is to inform you what we're listening to in the store - We know you care:

THE HOOD INTERNET

We loves these dudes.
Check out the amaaaaazing mixes:

Do you guys know about the Black Cab Sessions? Some of our favorite artists crammed into cabs in the US and London and play acoustic version of great songs! These are two of our favorites:

Pink Slip Grooves

This week we are jamming to Fiona Apple "Not About Love". This is such a great song to sing at the top of your lungs when you are driving - and as a bonus the video is pretty funny.

Fiona Apple - Not about love

Also, thank you to everyone who made it out to the Pink Slip Halloween Party! It was such a good time!

Pink Slip Grooves: Free Energy and Devendra Banhart

These songs might be a little summery but we LOVE LOVE LOVE them right now!

When I play these at work I can see the girls roll their eyes at me and say 'OMG AGAIN?' but really, this stuff is way better than Party in the USA! Come on guys, get on the Free Energy and Devendra Banhart train... choo choo!!

Pink Slip Groves

Outkast. Rosa Parks.

We know, it's very 1998 of us...but we can’t help it. We dare you to listen to this song and not dance.

As a side note, Outkast also gets some major points in the style department. Their style is unique, over the top and almost always bizarre, but we totally dig it.

Pink Slip Groves: Michael Jackson Edition

Due to recent events, we decided to do a Pink Slip Groves Michael Jackson addition.

I am listening to "Scream"
This is not a song people typically remember - but I dont know why, because its so great. It is a little hard around the edges. He did this song in the early 90's with Janet. Together it is like an unstoppable duo. And their dance scene is amazing!

For Lauren, she is remembering Michael with the classic "Thriller"
Maybe one of the best music videos of all time.
Ask her to show you the Thriller dance...she is really good at it!

Fact about Carly - She likes British rap:
The Streets "Everything is Borrowed"

Fact about Lauren - She knows Nada Surf is good for more than a one hit wonder:
Nada Surf, "Happy Kid"

I'm not sure what Carly is grooving to this week so I decided rather than ask her, I would post a song that ALWAYS reminds me of her:

My groove of the week:

LOVE IT. LIVE IT.

Pink Slip Grooves

This week Lauren is dancing around to Pull Shapes by The Pipettes.

Things we love about the Pipettes:
1. Their name reminds us of chemistry class
2. They are from England
3. They love polka dots dresses about as much as we do!

Carly's jam of the week is The Strokes - What Ever Happened?

Ok, so I am not sure why this music is queued to the Marie Antoinette movie...but it is all I could find, so deal!

p.s. things that are lame: "Embedding disabled by request"
thanks for nothing you tube

Pink Slip Grooves

Here are the Pink Slip Grooves of the week:
Lauren is in NYC buying some AMAZING dresses for the shop...we can all say its a safe bet she is walking down the streets of Manhattan rocking to *Little Jackie* Black Barbie

Meanwhile, Carly is dancing around her apartment to an old favorite - The Cardigans - My Favorite Game

Enjoy!

Pink Slip Grooves

Here are the Pink Slip Grooves of the week:

Carly is crushing on the newest Metric song 'Help, I'm Alive' - Truth: Pink Slip is going to be hanging out at the Metric show on June 14th! You should go too!!

Lauren is digging old songs out of the woodwork that people are probably so over. Here is Kings of Convenience with "I'd Rather Dance With You"

Pink Slip Grooves:

One of the things we love most about having our own special atmosphere is that we can share the music that we love in our store. We understand that our taste might not be the best, but we always like to listen to jams that are fun and upbeat... sometimes even songs that are outright ridiculous.
Pink Slip Grooves will feature a song that we currently enjoy listening to.

Carly's current groove is "The Chills" by Peter, Bjorn, and John:

This is a great song - super catchy and has a fun drum beat. Carly spends a lot of time dancing in her apartment to this song.

Lauren's current groove is "Move" by CSS:

We know that you want that girl's hair-do. We just know it.

Enjoy!!
